Assistant Accountant Apprentice
Role Overview
- Prepare weekly and monthly payrolls for a range of clients
- Communicate with clients to ensure payroll information is received on time
- Handle payroll queries and issue/upload payroll reports
- Notify clients of PAYE liabilities due
- Send pension letters, process opt‑outs, and manage pension re‑declarations
- Set up and close payroll schemes with HMRC
- Resolve discrepancies between payroll submissions and HMRC
- Process payrolls mainly on Nomi, with some on Sage
- Bookkeeping for allocated clients
- Prepare and submit VAT returns
- Prepare accounts to Trial Balance stage for review
- Assist with year‑end accounts work
- Support clients with accounting software queries
Training to be Provided
You will undertake a comprehensive Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship, which includes dedicated college release for studying. This program combines practical on-the-job experience with structured learning, ensuring you gain a deep understanding of accounting principles and practices. You will be supported by experienced mentors within Chalmers & Co
Desired Skills
Qualifications
- GCSEs in English and Maths at Grade 4/C or equivalent are preferred.
- AAT Level 2 or 3
